The All Progressives Congress erupted in jubilation as opposition members joined the ruling party from the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the People’s Democratic Party.
The former National Chairman of the NNPP, Prof. Rufai Alkali and its governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Senator Sulaiman Othman Hunkuyi, joined the APC.
Also, the governorship candidate of the NNPP in Benue 2023 elections and ex-national legal adviser of the party, Prof. Bem Angwe, alongside 23 others from the NNPP and the PDP have defected to the APC.
The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje received the defectors into the ruling party.
Alkali, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said they joined the APC because it is the ruling party, adding that the party was the best vehicle for political progress in Nigeria.
On his part, Ganduje noted that the NNPP has been hijacked and polluted by what he termed an association called Kwankwasiyya, and pledged that the defectors would be given a level-playing field and carried along in the scheme of things in the APC.
Meanwhile, the flag bearer of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Nov. 11 Off-Cycle Bayelsa State Governorship Election,Timipre Sylva has expressed optimism of becoming next Governor of the State.
Sylva who made the accession during a visit at the APC National Secretariat after his victory at the Appeal Court noted that he is back in the race to win the election.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has given the APC candidate for the Bayelsa State governorship election, Timipre Sylva, the nod to contest in the November 11 poll.
An Abuja Federal High Court had on October 9 disqualified Sylva from the contest following a suit by a member of the APC in the state, Demesuoyefa Kolomo.
He said he challenged the nomination of former governor Seriake Dickson after the PDP primaries that produced him (Dickson) in a court but was told by the Judges that he had no business challenging the outcome of the primaries because he was not part of it.
He wondered why the same scenario played out in his nomination as the APC candidate for the forthcoming polls and the court granted the prayer of someone who was not a party to the primaries and had no stake.
The one-time governor of Bayelsa state accused the PDP of sponsoring some renegades who claim to be members of the APC to cause confusion in the party because they are afraid.
