The Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, Muhammed Sambo, has said efforts are being made to support the Borno state government to deliver improved healthcare services to the people of the state.
Sambo who spoke on Thursday in Abuja, while receiving Borno State Health Sector Delegation at the NHIS Headquarters also announced the approval of Borno state accreditation and enrollment into the scheme
He explained that the decision became necessary due to the prolonged insurgency in the state which has rendered citizens homeless with difficulty in accessing and affording health care services.
“The scheme has been supporting every state that is lagging behind in terms of enrollment. So the scheme will do everything possible to ensure that Borno state is given full support,” he said.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff to Borno State Governor, Prof. Isah Marte, said the aim of the visit was to solicit assistance from NHIS to help the state government in developing the state-owned healthcare system, accreditation, enrollment of the vulnerable persons who were displaced and could not access healthcare services.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA), Dr. Saleh Abba noted that the meeting was basically to enable Borno state attain Universal Health Care Coverage because of what he described as its “vulnerable population.”
