Despite reports of pockets of crisis in some States over Saturday’s ward congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), its Secretary, Senator John Akpanuoduedehe, has rated the exercise across the country high.
Speaking in with The Nation on Saturday evening, the Caretaker Committee Secretary said reports from across the country showed the exercise was a huge success.
He said: “The congresses were very successful. God is awesome. The exercise was very successful, peaceful, and orderly everywhere across the country. INEC officials, Police, and DSS were at every point to monitor what we are doing.
“I am happy to tell you that the reports across the country indicated the congress was successful and peaceful.”
Even when told of pockets of crisis in some States, the Secretary said: “I don’t know about that. The reports I have showed that the exercise was very peaceful and successful everywhere.”
He attributed the success of the exercise to support of President Muhammadu Buhari and doggedness of the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Commending the two leaders, Akpanudoedehe said; “I want to thank Mr. President and our National Chairman (Buni). They did not succumb to all the plots to make us look back at the caretaker committee level.
“Don’t forget there has been the suspicion that we in the caretaker committee want to prolong our stay. If we are not sincere, we would have jumped at the confusion and say we postpone the congress.
“But the national chairman, in line with the instruction of the President on what we were asked to do and he (Buni), is doing exactly that and was not perturbed by the confusion.
“The chairman is not moved by all the distractions. He kept faith with the date. He has been focused and keeping to the agenda of the party.”
