We Are Working To Revive Patriotism in Nigerians And Promote Unity In Nigeria – NPS

The National Patriotic Summit (NPS) on Tuesday, said it was working to rejuvenate the spirit of patriotism in Nigerians, especially youths to promote nation building and unity in Nigeria.

Dr Ejike Oji, Chairman of NPS, said this  at the Official Global Media Unveiling of the National Patriotic Summit  in Abuja.

Oji said that the move became imperative because Nigerians were losing hope in the country and many people were leaving to other countries.

“Nigeria is the only country that we have, we can make it better, no country like Nigeria, it is one of the best countries but we need  to create the future we want.

“That is why this summit with volunteerism as its core is going to make sure that we all recognise that we have only one country and we must make it work especially the youths with its population strength.’’

Oji said that if  young people in Nigeria could volunteer to work together to serve for a good purpose and not become willing tools in wrong hands Nigeria would be great.

He said that the solution was in serving and not running to other countries because there was no place like home.

The Team Lead for NPS, Phil Roberts, said that the national summit would hold December annually and it would be an avenue for critical stakeholders to genuinely discuss and birth a new page for Nigeria.

“In the current reality of Nigeria ,there has been a rise in activities that detrimental to the purpose of the existence of our nation.

“These negative activities have lured youths into unpatriotic acts; a lot of these youths have also given up as they use unimaginable routes to escape to foreign countries to seek greener pastures,’’ he said.

According to Roberts, the project will promote patriotism which is the motherboard for volunteerism to positively engage youths to use their skills ,careers and professions for nation building.

He said that this would bring about a drastic reduction in the numerous social vices plaguing the polity and would increase love for the nation.

He said that the summit would hold on Dec.9, and would   partner with the  Nigeria National Volunteer Service to create a  sustainable platform for patriots  for the growth and development of Africa.

A former Presidential Candidate ,Alliance National Party, Asiwaju Shittu, urged youths to stay together , be more progressive,  shun social vices and work to deliver Nigeria.

Shittu said that Nigeria would never fail so people should eliminate that thought from their minds and look for positive ways to find solution to the challenges of the nation.

Director ,Public Relations ,All Progressives Congress (APC), Sandra Oladele, said that one Nigeria was possible if citizens would embrace  love because love would always win.

Oladele urged youths to shun sectionalism, hatred .social vices and find what to do to be progressive citizens of Nigeria.

A representative from the National Orientation Agency (NOA),Paul Odeh, urged Nigerians to shun hate speech because it was responsible for most of the challenges the nation was facing.

Odeh said that people no longer trues each other and the government and this suspicion had led to other problems adding that “hate speech is Nigeria’s problem ,so I plead with you to stop it.’’
