The Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the poor results recorded in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is not due to “wrong syllabus” given to candidates for the exam as speculated.
According to the statement by the Head, Protocol and Public Affairs, Fabian Benjamin, said the questions set for the 2021 UTME are based on the texts prescribed in its syllabus issued to candidates.
JAMB noted that complaints that the UTME questions were based on the wrong syllabus came from candidates who were ill-prepared and didn’t perform well.
On the rumour of mass failure, JAMB described it as a fluke and a campaign by those whose source of illicit income has been blocked.
The statement read, “The Board ordinarily would not have reacted to the half-truth being peddled by some disgruntled candidates, who were ill-prepared for the examination and who, true to all expectations, performed below the expectations of their guardians, that the Board had based its questions on the wrong syllabus.
